Josh, I continue to be amazed at the content you’re producing! This last post on speedos was excellent. I happen to be a former college swimmer and current masters swim coach and swimmer. My masters swim team has many ex-olympians and former college swimmers. To expand on your analogy, they boldly and proudly wear their tiny speedos to practice. They are confident , self-assured, and unwaveringly proud to be a speedo wearer. They wouldn’t imagine wearing one of those silly jammer suits. They don’t really care what people think about them wearing a speedo because they are self-assured and confident that wearing a speedo is something they chose and earned from all their training and hard work. Their confidence is contagions and makes others want to be like them and be near them. They don’t have to explain why they’re wearing a speedo because others clearly see that Speedo wearing makes sense for them. I mean if I had abs like that…in fact I’ve noticed more and more speedo wearing from some of the other swimmers who just maybe think the speedo wearing looks pretty liberating. 🏊🏼🏊♂️👙
Thanks for reading and your kind words. I love that extension of the image of athletes in speedos. I’m not there yet in the literal sense, it am keeping my meaning going. Never say never.
Good stuff, Josh. I feel like I’m wearing the proverbial speedo when I’m trying to date (unless specifically match w/a woman who is also sober or just chooses not to drink). One day at a time….agree not helpful to future trip about drinking or not drinking.
Agreed, my wife and I also love food and previous to my sober journey would have been the one bringing a bottle of wine to a friends house for dinner or evening together. You’re showing them another way to still be together without the booze. And there are a number of great alcohol alternatives that can provide similar territory for exploration and conversation. Thanks again for reading.
Thanks for sharing this, Kathy. Friends and drinking is such a tricky piece. Honestly, it’s still something that probably keeps me from inviting over more people. I’m working on this…I think it’s great that you made a commitment for yourselves; it is worth it to me even if it can be socially challenging at times.
Love the ‘Speedos’ comparison… as someone that is metaphorically wearing them with comfort, I can attest to swimming faster in life.
Reducing that drag with joy

That sounds even tougher than trying to connect to other guys without drinking. Out here with you one day at a time.
This is really great. I never thought about a speedo metaphor before but found myself laughing about the visual.
Glad you enjoyed it. Folks definitely give a wide berth in the early days of not drinking.
